In an industry driven by fast fashion and mass production, Dutch designer Jeanne Hermans is proving that craftsmanship and patience still resonate with a global audience.

At just 30, Hermans has built a niche brand, C’est Jeanne, from her small atelier in Zaandam, near Amsterdam. Specialising in handcrafted gloves, her intricate designs—featuring embroidery, florals and embellishments—have attracted international attention and high-profile clientele.

Her creations have been worn by global stars such as Cher, Dua Lipa and Miley Cyrus, with prices ranging from €300 to €975. Despite this visibility, Hermans has remained committed to producing each piece entirely by hand.

Every pair of gloves is carefully constructed, with simpler designs taking a few hours and more complex pieces requiring days or even hundreds of hours to complete. This dedication to detail has become the hallmark of her brand in a market often dominated by speed over substance.

Hermans’ journey into glove-making began unexpectedly during her tailoring studies in Amsterdam. After discovering a book on leather glove-making, she developed a passion that led to her first collection in 2017. However, it was her consistent “Glove of the Week” series on social media, launched in 2022, that gradually brought her work to the attention of stylists and fashion insiders.

Despite celebrity exposure, Hermans notes that such placements rarely translate into immediate financial gain, as items are often loaned rather than sold. Instead, they serve to build long-term brand recognition.

Balancing creativity with business demands remains a challenge, and Hermans admits to long working hours. Still, she is cautious about rapid expansion, aiming to preserve both quality and artistic integrity.

For Hermans, success lies in the craft itself—transforming intricate ideas into tangible pieces, one stitch at a time.
